I'm not sure if this is Quakenet specific or not since neither I or the users have any channel passwords anywhere else (being affected), but if the server is experiencing Internet connection issues some channel passwords are changed to '*'. This happens to all users with different clients.
If I remember correctly, some time ago DarthGandalf helped me come to the conclusion that it was my IRC client sending the command and I let it rest at that. This has been a continuous issue for all users for several years now. It doesn't necessarily happen for every user connected, not at the same time and not always for all password protected channels. But if there's a connection issue the password changes are a given, followed by disabled channels since they couldn't be joined.
Seeing as this might be a widespread client issue/function, a solution might be a feature to be able to lock a password for a channel. The module "stickychan" does nothing to prevent this from happening. This is perhaps the most annoying issue throughout the years so any help with mitigating this is greatly appreciated by all users.
