I'm using Dovecot SASL already for Dovecot and postfix.
I would like to use ZNC with SASL/PAM what would be required to support Dovecot SDL?

But that require's installing another SASL implementation.
That's why I asked what is needed to support Dovecot SASL instead of cyrus.

I meant, looking at that module for an inspiration how to write a similar one for Dovecot :)
