2015-02-13 18:45:42+0200 < MrC> I'm kind of disappointed that BindHost4 and BindHost6 were never actually implemented (though you could bind to a hostname with both an A and AAAA record).
2015-02-13 18:46:30+0200 < MrC> But binding to a hostname is awful because if DNS is somehow dead... and it shouldn't be necessary to edit /etc/hosts .
2015-02-13 18:47:10+0200 < Mikaela> MrC: what should I set those values as if I wanted to only use IPv6?
2015-02-13 18:47:23+0200 < Mikaela> or only set bindhost6?
2015-02-13 18:48:08+0200 < MrC> Good point Mikaela, though presumeably an option could then be added to force v4 or v6.
2015-02-13 18:48:38+0200 < Mikaela> currently I am not on any network that doesn't have IPv6 with multiple servers and my IPv6 address isn't shared for multiple users
2015-02-13 18:49:18+0200 < MrC> As I guess most networks don't have an irc6.*/ipv6.* or irc4.*/ipv4.* to force one or the other.
2015-02-13 18:49:21+0200 < Mikaela> there was one network where only one server had IPv6 though
2015-02-13 18:49:43+0200 < Mikaela> some do, others have had and CNAME it to normal round robin or don't do at all
2015-02-13 18:50:13+0200 < MrC> There's one two-server network where the server I'm sponsoring is the only one with IPv6.
2015-02-13 18:50:22+0200 < MrC> Actually, two such networks.
2015-02-13 18:51:51+0200 < Mikaela> in those networks bindhost4/6 would probably be nice, but with others the ability to force specific one would be nice
2015-02-13 18:51:51+0200 < Mikaela> MrC: do you know if there is issue about this where this could be put?
2015-02-13 18:52:49+0200 < MrC> Mikaela: I don't remember seeing such an issue posted but there could be one. It's only something I've mentioned in this channel before some weeks/months ago.
2015-02-13 18:53:01+0200 < MrC> On several occasions.
2015-02-13 19:02:27+0200 < Mikaela> I think I will be searching for it

The solution is to set A/AAAA records however you wish for some (sub)domain and use it as bindhost. For example:
% host vep.mikaela.info
vep.mikaela.info has address 0.0.0.0
vep.mikaela.info has IPv6 address 2001:1bc8:1004::2:0:15e
Where 0.0.0.0 is any available IPv4 address, the IPv6 version would be ::.
It appears I had opened closed duplicate for this https://github.com/znc/znc/issues/1002.

as @kerio92 points out, easier way (when you are root) is to just add `/etc/hosts` entries:
```
0.0.0.0 vep.mikaela.info
2001:1bc8:1004::2:0:15e vep.mikaela.info
```
