NickServ module should ask for nickname which it uses to identify to NickServ. Sometimes people use nicks which aren't registered. This could be useful in case of connecting to network and someone else is using the registered nickname or nickname being blocked. ZNC uses just alternative nick when connecting and that is probably not registered either.

I don't think I fully understand what you're trying to say. To me it sounds like you want it to automatically take your main nick name, which is probably registered. This is already possible with the keepnick module. If this isn't what you mean please try explaining it again. Possibly with an example or something like that.

I had thought that this module identifies automatically on connect with the nickname which is specified as primary nickname in ZNC. This feature request is for to select nick which *NickServ should use to identify to services. Later I was told that this module identifies only when NickServ asks for identifying (and it doesn't identify even then for me).

Mhmm, this then sounds like a bug to me. If you could post the messages nickserv sends where it basically ask for your nickserv password, I could provide a patch that fixes your issue.
