This morning I was trying to connect to freenode, but it wouldn't connect.
Disconnected from IRC (No route to host). Reconnecting...
With the help from some people on the IRC channel I found that
host irc.freenode.net
irc.freenode.net is an alias for chat.freenode.net.
chat.freenode.net has address 50.22.136.18

But
strace -e connect -p $(pidof znc)
Process 4034 attached - interrupt to quit
connect(9, {sa_family=AF_INET6, sin6_port=htons(6667), inet_pton(AF_INET6, "2a03:280:0:1::1", &sin6_addr), sin6_flowinfo=0, sin6_scope_id=0}, 28) = -1 EINPROGRESS (Operation now in progress)

So ZNC only connect to the last IP in the list, which doesn't work.
