Whenever I connect with ZNC my alternative nick always joins as well. Changing my nick results in my alternative nick automatically becoming my main nick which then leads me to ghosting the nick. Soon after it rejoins.
Is this the intended behavior or have I set something up incorrectly?
I apologize if this is the wrong place to post something like this.

You're connecting not to ZNC, but to IRC server directly, and ZNC
connects there too.
As its/your current nick is used (by you), it can't use it, so it has to
use alt nick...
Connect to ZNC instead, and you'll be connected through it to your only
nick.

As far as I know I am connected to ZNC as I am able to use the /znc
commands. Perhaps it's something to do with my client (HexChat).

Turns out I had a previous config still running in the background that I needed to kill.
Just did a pgrep znc to get the PID then kill <pid>.
