No Idea what it can be, as the path to the image hasn't changed. Can you check the path of the image?
You can do it as follows:

It reappeared after I rebooted and opened only one workspace with Frontmatter enabled. Before I had opened two different workspaces where one had Frontmatter disabled, and it's also globally disabled (I am enabling plugins only per workspace in VSCode).
The plugin also updated to a new beta version after I restarted.
I think either vscode has an issue with multiple workspaces and different plugins per workspace or (much more possible) the files were locked due to Frontmatter updating. Lets close this for now.

@davidsneighbour that could be the case, as the workspace is not allowed to use the assets from the extension folder. Thanks for the update!

It just happened (happens) again. I realize I can't even open the frontmatter dashboard, and the whole plugin seems locked. I have both versions (standard and beta) installed, but both are globally disabled, and beta is "enabled (Workspace)" for this project. Maybe they block each other?
The whole situation is solved after a long wait and after the plugin is updated automatically (notice in the bottom right about the update appears).
There is no item in the output dropdown for Front Matter, so I can't know if anything debuggable is caught. The only thing that suggests the plugin is in there is the empty spot in the sidebar (and on right click it says Front Matter in its spot). A loading symbol overlay is on the spot (see first screenshot).
Last side note: it happens in one of the new profiles.

Let me check again. I rebooted and it's still not there.
