In order to have the media viewer open up and show access to page bundle assets, like images, the type has to be one of which is specified as a page bundle in content types. Then, when you want to insert an image in the content or change the featured image in the frontmatter, it opens the media viewer in the root of the bundle, whether there are images there or they are in some subfolder like /images/.
Describe the solution you'd like
It would be nicer to have the media view open up directly to the first folder it finds that has image/media files in it. So if there aren't any in the page bundle root, it looks through subfolders, and if it finds one, it opens that subfolder up. If none are found it stays in the page bundle root (iff media files can be added through the FM media view. If not...) or it opens the settings-specified media/resource folder.
It would actually be nice to have two "windows", one that is dedicated to the settings-specified media/resource folder (i know by default it is /static/ but in many cases it's actually /assets/ now) and one that is dedicated to the page bundle resources (if it is a page bundle).
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think currently, when the page bundle root is opened when going to the media view, one can click on the "drive" icon at the top left of the view to traverse up folders where it shows the settings-specified media folder along with the page bundle root (i'm not at my computer at the moment)
