Can this project refactor the current 'tide' command in modules/locationdata.py
And optimally use Linux local program xtide for data calculations offline
https://flaterco.com/xtide/
Ideally this would be a new module xtide.py and the current method can determine if enabled and use it versus the API
Config.ini have a section to enable
Here is an example of it being used in a similar project https://github.com/chaunceygardiner/weewx-xtide/blob/main/bin/user/xtide.py

I would like to have tide data for as global as possible see
https://github.com/windcrusader/tidepredict
Perhaps an option for xtide or this

I do know this may have more requirements and so a new xtide module is for sure good to minimally impact the project overall
Consideration for which modules to include should be no regex and well maintained secure imports
I'm not sure if https://github.com/sam-cox/pytides
Will globally work well or not

xtide probably isn't the answer as it doesn't work outside the US and the others are a bit of a mixed bag. Tidepredict looks pretty simple though. Simple is good

Might be the best for global use

@g7kse can you test this branch and let me know what you think
I was concerned the data isn't good ? I might have bad timezone?

I tried a fresh install and was getting an error with the install script. didn't seem to clear itself from an aborted install so manually removed the config.ini

you have to use pip install tidepredict --break-system-packages with RPi otherwise it throws an error. I do this all the time on single use machines but can you confirm that you got tidepredict to work with an arm board?
error: command 'aarch64-linux-gnu-gcc' failed: No such file or directory
[end of output]
note: This error originates from a subprocess, and is likely not a problem with pip.
ERROR: Failed building wheel for timezonefinder
Failed to build timezonefinder
ERROR: Failed to build installable wheels for some pyproject.toml based projects (timezonefinder)```

Last one. Tried to install on Ubuntu machine and the error is to do with tidepredict python: can't open file '/home/alex/tidepredict': [Errno 2] No such file or directory
So nothing to do with meshbot, but to do with the library

Correct I am not installing the package and it needs installed with pip or pipx

It's about 500mb

But use a local name I wanna know if the data is any good - it seems no to me
@g7kse can you just test this locally?
`python -m tidepredict -l "Port Angeles" `

Doesn't want to work for me. I'm away for the next couple of days but I'm not convinced the library is functional.
Did you get an output?

Yes it works for me @g7kse just has one high and low a day and I don't think it's good info it could be a demo only?
