When you click on a message in a channel, you have the option to go back and to delete the message. A third option with "reply" would be great. It should start a new message in the channel with @[contact] (where contact is the username of the user you are replying to).
This is especially handy because the T-deck does not have keys for the "[" and "]" characters.
