Renaming the device in Settings changed the firmware's node name at once,
but mc-webui kept its cached copy until the next reconnect. Own messages
were stored under the old name, and their raw_packet snapshot and echo
candidates were built from it: Resend then broadcast a second packet under
the old name, and messages sent after the rename never got a repeater
badge. Open pages kept the old name in the navbar and on each message
sent, even across a container restart, until a reload.
set_param('name') now cuts the name to the firmware's 31 bytes on a
character boundary (the firmware cuts mid-character, the lib drops the
fragment on read-back), reads SELF_INFO back under the send lock - also
when the command failed or its reply was lost - and adopts the reported
name through _set_device_name(), which _connect() uses too. That updates
runtime_config and emits device_name on /chat; the page applies it to the
navbar, MC_CONFIG.deviceName and the mention rule, and loadStatus() catches
up from /api/status for a page that missed the event.
Also: send_channel_message reads the name under the send lock; the
self-echo guard no longer compares the sender's name, so a resend of a
message from before a rename is still recognised; get_device_info no
longer caches an ERROR reply as SELF_INFO; the observer reloads its MQTT
clients on a rename; Settings sends the name only when it changed.

A channel used to have two settings: every message or nothing. Now it has
three - muted, every message, or a named profile of rules (mentions me,
message contains, sender contains; any or all must match). A channel on a
profile counts only matching messages: the unread badge, the navbar bell,
the app-icon badge and the browser/Android notification all follow the same
rule. Direct messages are untouched.
- app/notify_profiles.py: rule matching (case- and diacritic-insensitive,
same table as the chat filter), validation, storage in app_settings
- read_status.notify_profile column, written together with is_muted so a
mute never leaves a profile behind; migration added
- /api/notification-profiles CRUD, PUT /api/channels/<i>/notifications;
/api/read_status and /api/messages/updates report channel_notify_profiles,
the latter counts a profiled channel's unread through the profile
- Manage Channels: the bell opens a menu (Off / Every message / profiles /
Manage profiles...) instead of toggling; profiled rows get a green badge
- Settings > Notifications: profile list with in-use counts and an editor
- app.js evaluates the same rules for socket-delivered messages, and a
state version guard stops an in-flight poll from undoing a fresh
mute/favorite/profile change
- i18n en/pl (43 keys), docs (user guide, architecture, whatsnew), tests

The Interface tab carried data-demo-lock as a whole, which greyed out the
sidebar layout breakpoint along with the toast settings. The breakpoint is
localStorage — per browser, invisible to every other visitor — so it belongs
with theme, notification permission and the quick-access bar, all of which
were already allowed. The toast settings are server-side and shared, so the
lock moves onto the uiSettingsForm that owns them.
Audited every other locked region against the localStorage key list: this was
the only per-browser control caught by a lock. Notifications, theme, FAB
placement/size/position and the sidebar breakpoint are now the complete set of
preferences a demo visitor may change.

A tester's cached-contacts map came up empty and Path Analyzer drew routes
across the globe. Two of his 2131 cached contacts carried garbage positions
from corrupted adverts - lat 1642 / lon -323 and lat 309 / lon -1768.
Leaflet clamps latitude when projecting but not longitude, so fitBounds()
spanned 1797 degrees, dropped to zoom 0 and centred on lon -870; all 2273
real markers were rendered several world-widths outside the viewport.
Reproduced against his DB: zoom 0, bounds -1431..-309. The device-only view
was fine because both bad rows are cache-only.
Four layers, so no single miss can blank a map again:
- app/geo.py: one definition of a usable coordinate, applied on write in
Database.upsert_contact() so the cache stops storing garbage, and on API
output so a cache poisoned by an older build heals itself with no
migration. Corrupted advert types (61, 126, 152, 210 seen in the wild)
are logged but kept raw - they already render as UNKNOWN.
- static/js/geo-utils.js: hasValidGps()/withValidGps()/fitMapToPoints()
replace eight copies of the same check across six files. Path Analyzer
had a looser variant that also accepted lon == 0, which put nodes off
west Africa and stretched routes across the map; it now shares the rule.
- Per-marker try/catch and a bounds validity check, so an entry that still
slips through costs its own pin rather than the whole map.
Verified against the tester's DB in a container: cached map 2273 markers,
lon span 1797 -> 19 degrees, centred on Poland; the route that drew the
world-spanning line (msg 29499, token 72AF) now renders as a real
Krakow-Kielce path with the bad hop left unresolved. Live local instance
regression-checked on all five map pages. tests/test_geo.py: 43 passed;
full suite 290 passed, 2 pre-existing failures unrelated to this change.

On phone-sized screens the floating column overlapped the message
composer and its bottom button landed on top of send, so tapping send
hit the FAB instead. Enough testers reported it to make clear the
default was wrong rather than their aim.
isFabHidden() now treats a missing key as hidden, so only an explicit
'false' shows the bar. The storage key and its meaning are unchanged,
which keeps every browser that already made a choice on that choice:
the new default reaches only browsers that never touched the setting.
The checkbox is inverted to match — "Show Quick Access buttons",
unticked by default — because a negatively phrased toggle that ships
ticked reads as a double negative. Renamed settHideFab -> settShowFab
and the two translation keys with it, en and pl both updated.
With the bar off, applyItemPlacements() already routes every item to
the main menu, verified in a real browser: filter, search, DMs,
contacts and settings are all reachable under the hamburger, the send
button is unobstructed, the choice survives a reload, and a browser
holding 'false' keeps the bar.
Not covered: the direct-message screen has its own FAB container that
does not read this setting. Hiding it there would strand the DM filter
and settings, which have no menu equivalent, so it stays visible for
now and is called out in whatsnew.

mc-webui has no login, which is fine on a LAN and not fine once the
address is handed to testers: they assume the node is theirs and rename
it, and the console is right there for anyone curious enough to type
into it.
MC_DEMO=true refuses everything that reconfigures the radio, destroys
data, reaches other people's repeaters, rebuilds the containers,
publishes to an external broker, or hands out a secret. Reading and
sending messages keep working, so the instance is still worth visiting.
The guard is default-deny: an api_bp.before_request hook refuses every
non-GET unless it is on a short allowlist, so an endpoint added later is
locked without touching this module. That mattered — six mutating
endpoints already had no frontend caller and would never have made a
hand-written blacklist. A small read denylist covers the GETs that leak
(repeater passwords, backup download, capture download, /api/logs),
which the write guard never sees.
Two paths bypass the HTTP layer and are closed separately: the console
is a Socket.IO event, not a route, so it is checked against a read-only
command set; the log viewer is refused at the connect handshake.
Access is kept two ways. MC_DEMO_TRUSTED_NETS unlocks by CIDR, and
MC_DEMO_UNLOCK_CODE unlocks by a code typed once in Settings and held in
an HMAC cookie for 30 days — stateless, and deliberately not Flask's
session, whose SECRET_KEY is a hardcoded public constant.
The trap the network list walks into: published through a tunnel, every
visitor arrives from the tunnel's address, and if the tunnel runs on the
LAN then trusting the LAN unlocks the instance for the whole internet.
An address arriving with a proxy header is therefore not matched unless
MC_TRUST_PROXY is on, and startup logs report the resulting shape.
Frontend is advisory only: demo-lock.js loads from _head_i18n.html so it
reaches all eight entry points including the six iframes, greys out
[data-demo-lock] rather than hiding it (the instance exists to show the
app off), re-applies via MutationObserver for JS-rendered buttons, and
turns any 403 demo_locked into a toast.
Verified on the local container: the rename, reboot, updater, vacuum,
cleanup and the leaky GETs all 403; sending, read markers and ordinary
reads pass; `set name` is refused over the console socket while `infos`
still answers; unlock/lock round-trips. 86 new unit tests, en/pl at 100%.

Completes the sharing feature: you can now send what the cards render.
A "+" button next to the emoji button opens a three-item menu — contact,
channel, location. Five actions in the official app collapse into three
because "me" and "my position" are not separate destinations, just the
first, pinned entry of the picker they belong to. Same number of taps,
one less menu level, and every entry behaves identically.
The payload is inserted into the input as plain text, byte-identical to
what the official app sends. A protected "chip" was considered and
dropped: it is unknown whether the official app renders a card when the
token is not the whole message body, and that risk is not worth the
cosmetics. The reassurance went into a live preview above the composer
instead, rendered through the very same processMessageContent() the
recipient will use — so it cannot drift. Edit the token by hand and the
preview vanishes, which is immediate feedback that the message will no
longer render as a card.
Details worth knowing:
- The contact picker lists device memory and cache together, since the
cache is where adverts land and those are the contacts worth passing
on. It renders at most 150 rows: this mesh has over 1500 cached
contacts, and the full list costs thousands of DOM nodes for something
nobody scrolls to the end of. Search runs over the whole set.
- The channel picker carries the region scope along, because a recipient
transmitting under the firmware default would not match the sender.
- The location picker holds both cases in one dialog: our own position as
a button, plus a Leaflet map for any other point.
- Byte budgets are enforced up front (135 channel / 150 DM). A token that
cannot fit is refused rather than truncated — shortening a public key
or a channel secret destroys it.
- The DM composer starts disabled until a conversation is chosen, so the
button mirrors the input's disabled state via a MutationObserver.
Also fixes _selfInfo being populated only inside the map modal's shown
handler, which left it null on a fresh page — the location cards need our
own position at render time for distance and bearing.
Verified in a real browser against the live device: 32 assertions on the
channel composer, 13 on the DM panel (including its local map modal),
both suites green with no console errors.

MeshCore clients share contacts, channels and positions as plain text in
ordinary chat messages. Until now those arrived as unreadable raw tokens.
They now render as interactive cards in both the channel chat and DMs.
Three wire formats, none of them ours to choose — they are what the
official app emits, so share-tokens.js stays byte-compatible with it:
contact <64-hex-pubkey:type:name> (compact, not a URI)
channel meshcore://channel/add?name=&secret=®ion_scope=
location bare "lat,lon"
The contact URI form is parsed too (QR codes carry it) but never emitted:
with a name like "MarWoj 💡📱 mobile" it costs 153 bytes and cannot fit a
135-byte channel packet, where the compact token needs 91.
Parsing runs BEFORE HTML escaping, leaving private-use-area placeholders
that the later passes cannot match. Tokens do not survive the existing
pipeline otherwise: escaping breaks a URI's '&', processChannelLinks eats
a '#channel' name, processMentions an '@' in a contact name, and the
token's closing '>' collides with quote syntax.
Cards resolve their action before rendering, so the button states what
will actually happen rather than surprising the user afterwards:
contact Add / Update name to X / Already in contacts / Push to device
channel Add / Already joined / Name used by a different key
The public key is the identity — a known key under a new name is a
rename, never a second contact.
Shared contacts land in the local cache rather than device memory:
they arrive unsolicited and contact slots are limited, so promotion stays
deliberate. The card offers it inline once cached, so it costs one click
rather than a trip to the Contacts panel. New: manual-add accepts
target=cache, which needs no device connection.
Location cards add distance and bearing from our own advertised position,
plus map/copy/external-map actions. A shared channel's region scope is
carried over on join, since transmitting under the firmware default would
not match the sender.
Coordinate detection is deliberately narrow — both numbers need 3+
decimals, ranges are checked, and matches inside URLs are skipped — so
prose like "1,5 osoby" or "wersja 2,10" and Google Maps links are left
alone.
Verified against real payloads received from another device on #mcwebui,
covering all three formats plus a contact URI and emoji names: 65 parser
assertions, 57 render assertions, i18n check clean at pl 100%, and both
themes screenshotted.

Tapping the navbar channel selector focused a text input, so Android
raised the on-screen keyboard on every channel switch — half the screen
covered for a list that is four or five items long. The type-to-filter it
enabled solved a problem nobody has: the firmware caps how many channels
a device holds, so there are never enough to search.
#channelSelectorInput becomes #channelSelectorButton, a <button> carrying
the same .form-select chrome, and click toggles the dropdown. The list
itself is unchanged (previews, unread badges, favourites, muted styling),
so renderChannelDropdownItems() just loses its query parameter and the
channels.dropdown.no_matches key goes with it. Keyboard access is kept:
Enter/Space opens, arrows move, Enter selects, Escape closes — the
keydown handler now bails out while the dropdown is closed so Enter
performs a plain button activation instead of picking the first row.
Verified locally at 360px: focus lands on the button (never an editable
element), open/toggle/select/outside-click/Escape all behave, 0 console
errors, and the control renders identically in light and dark themes.

Some faults cannot be diagnosed from a screenshot on a server we have no
access to. The one that prompted this: a sent channel message gets no
repeater badge, and nothing in the database distinguishes "nobody in
earshot repeated it" from "the repeat came back over the air but the
firmware dropped the RX-log frame before the app ever saw it".
Settings > Diagnostics records a bounded window into a zip: every RX-log
frame, the echo correlator's decision (with the pending-send list that
explains a non-match), what each send expected to hear back, the
application log at DEBUG, and the device's own packets.recv counter at
both ends of the window. That last comparison is the whole point - it
turns the firmware's silent 4-frame queue overflow into a measurement
instead of a hypothesis.
scripts/diag_report.py reads a capture offline and prints the verdict.
Captures can be downloaded, or uploaded to a Zipline instance once the
user pastes a token handed to them out-of-band. The URL ships as a
default; the token never does, because this repository is public.
- Hot path follows observer.py's contract: one deque append, no locks,
no I/O. The log handler uses a no-op lock object rather than
lock = None, which raises under Python 3.13's `with self.lock` in
Handler.handle() - latent on the 3.11 container, fatal on 3.13
- Caps: 5/15/30/60 min, 25 MB, 10 stored captures. All enforced by the
writer thread, so a user stop and an auto-stop finalise identically
- The capture contains the text of messages received while it runs; the
UI states this and confirms before any upload
Also drops a redundant function-local `from flask import current_app` in
get_status(): it shadowed the module-level import for the whole function
and broke /api/status as soon as anything referenced current_app above
it. Found by the capture tool, in its own change.

Stage 5a translated the contacts pages but the browser diff was only run
against /contacts/existing, so the other three kept most of their page
headers, action buttons and confirmation modals in English: page titles,
"Add Contact", "Pending Contacts", Refresh, Filters, Approve/Ignore and
both batch-confirmation dialogs, plus Advanced Filters, Preview Cleanup
and the cleanup confirmation on /contacts/manage. Most of the keys they
needed already existed from 5a - the template sites were simply never
wired to them.
Three spinners in the Settings modal (Regions, Analyzer, Observer lists)
were missed in 8b for the opposite reason: their containers are excluded
from the stage-8 browser check as JS-populated, but the spinner inside is
server-rendered, so excluding the container hid it.
Root cause of both, and the reason for the new tool: a browser diff only
sees what is visible on the page it is pointed at. Add
i18n-template-diff.py, which fetches each entry point's HTML in en and pl
and compares text nodes directly. No browser, no per-page script, and it
covers closed modals and every page in one run - it found all of the
above in a single pass. It cannot see anything JavaScript writes, so it
complements the Playwright scripts rather than replacing them.
Every server-rendered template in the project is now translated. The
whole-project run reports 11 identical strings, all correct: the device
name, version strings, the language names (which are supposed to match),
"1 hop" (identical in Polish) and the glossary terms Hash, HB, Repeater.
Catalog: 760 -> 781 keys, pl at 100%.

Observer, Notifications (stage 8b)
Finishes the Settings modal, and with it every template in the project.
The Quick Access placement table is 13 rows that differ only in the item
they name, so it is driven by one template key plus the item labels the
menu and FAB column already have - t('settings.appear.placement_aria',
item=t('dm.title')) - instead of 13 near-duplicate keys and 26 copies of
"Quick Access"/"Main Menu".
That does normalise two aria-labels: "DM placement" and "Contacts
placement" become the full item names, matching what the row already
reads and what the other eleven already did. They are screen-reader-only,
so nothing visible changes; the alternative was keeping two keys alive
forever to preserve an abbreviation.
Paragraphs with a link or <code> inside stay whole rather than being cut
around the markup - the Regions and Observer intros are single t_html
values, so a translator moves the link where their grammar wants it
instead of translating two half-sentences.
Also in app.js: updateNotificationToggleUI() writes all four badge states
(Unavailable / Blocked / Enabled / Disabled) over the server-rendered one.
Catalog: 715 -> 760 keys, pl at 100%. The Settings diff now reports two
identical strings across all ten tabs, both correct: docs/translations.md
and meshcore-packet-capture, a path and a format name. No horizontal
overflow at 360px on any tab.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The modal shell and the first four tabs, plus all ten tab labels: the tab
bar is one block, so splitting it across two commits would have meant
editing the same lines twice. 8b fills the panes behind the other six.
Radio parameter names stay English - Bandwidth, Spreading Factor, Coding
Rate are what the firmware, the CLI and the forums call them, the same
call rptmgmt.set.radio_note already made. Latitude, Longitude and "Pick
from map" reuse the rptmgmt.set.* keys rather than getting a second
translation that could drift from the repeater form.
"Auto-close after (s)" and "Don't close automatically" appear in both the
Group Chat and Interface tabs with identical English, so they share one
key; only their tooltips differ, and those are separate keys.
Also in app.js: populateRadioPresets() rebuilds the preset <select> and
was writing "Load preset..." back in English over the translated option.
Catalog: 651 -> 715 keys, pl at 100%. Verified with a new
i18n-stage8-settings.js that walks all ten tabs (and both Device pills),
written to cover 8b too - the six untranslated tabs show up in its report
until their slice lands, which is the point.

Manage Channels, region scope picker, Share Channel, Device Info,
analyzer registry (edit + chooser), Observer MQTT broker editor,
coordinate picker, quote dialog, map, update, backup and search.
The Settings modal (base.html ~458-1147) is still untouched - stage 8.
Where the two share markup, this commit anchors on the container id
rather than the markup: the "Loading..." spinner appears six times in
base.html and only three of them are in this slice.
Also in app.js, on the same rule as 7a - the writer that replaces a
string this slice keyed: the analyzer and broker modal titles (they
swap Add/Edit on open), the map modal title, the coordinate picker
label, and the database size line under Optimize.
Three real misses came out of the browser diff, none of which the
checker could see:
- Cancel/Save in the analyzer and broker editors were never keyed. They
only surfaced once because the diff dedupes by text, so a single
report line stood for both modals.
- The database size under Optimize is written by JS on open, so the
translated server-rendered value was replaced a moment later.
- All three Device Info tabs render their bodies from app.js. Excluded
from the check and left whole for stage 9 rather than translating the
Share tab alone.
Left English on purpose: FTS5 query examples (hello OR world, hell*) -
the syntax is typed verbatim in any language, only what each one means
is translated - plus mqtt.example.com and the {packetHash} token.
Catalog: 573 -> 651 keys, pl at 100%. Verified with a new
i18n-stage7b-modals.js that opens each modal through the Bootstrap API
instead of its real trigger, since several are only reachable from a row
or message that may not exist on a given device.
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Covers the navbar, the offcanvas main menu, and index.html: the channel
sidebar, filter bar, composer, status bar and the FAB column, plus the
six fullscreen panel modals, whose headers now reuse each panel's own
title key (dm.title, contacts.title, console.title, repeaters.title,
pa.title, logs.title) instead of repeating the words.
The Settings modal (base.html ~458-1147) and the other modals in
base.html are untouched - stages 8 and 7b.
Also translated in app.js: updateStatus(), updateLastRefresh(), the FAB
collapse toggle, the filter bar's "no matches" panel and
updateRegionIndicator(). The rest of app.js stays for stage 9; the line
drawn here is "does it overwrite a string index.html just got a key
for". Without them the status bar renders Polish server-side and flips
back to English a second later, which would make the slice impossible to
verify - a miss and a stage-9 leftover look identical.
"Filter messages" (menu) and "Filter Messages" (FAB) keep separate keys
even though the Polish is identical, so this commit changes no English
text, only where it lives.
Catalog: 526 -> 573 keys, pl at 100%.
Verified with i18n-diff.js and a new i18n-stage7a-chrome.js that opens
the offcanvas menu at both viewports - like the DM modals, a closed
offcanvas is invisible to the plain diff. Two tooling fixes came out of
it, both in F:\tmp\pwverify:
- i18n-diff.js checked visibility on the text node's parent only, so
every closed modal's contents landed in the report: 275 flagged lines
on the main chat, 13 after walking the ancestor chain. It was noise,
never a false pass, but it is the kind of noise that trains you to
skim the list.
- browser.js now centralises the Chrome launch. The translate bubble was
held off by one flag copy-pasted into each script; it is now flags plus
a persistent profile with translation disabled in Preferences, which is
the part that survives Chrome renaming the feature.

Groundwork for translating the interface. No strings are extracted yet — this
stage only adds the mechanism, so the UI is byte-identical in English.
Translations are one flat JSON file per language. An admin can add a language by
dropping <lang>.json into $MC_CONFIG_DIR/translations/ and picking it in
Settings > Appearance — no rebuild, no restart, no compile step. A drop-in file
overrides a built-in one of the same name. Built-ins: en (source) and pl.
How it works:
- app/i18n.py loads and merges catalogs over en.json, so per-key English
fallback is baked in server-side and the JS runtime needs no fallback logic.
Catalogs are fingerprinted with stat() per render, so a dropped-in file is
live on the next refresh rather than the next restart — which matters,
because restarting drops the device connection for up to 60s.
- Template text renders server-side via t()/t_html()/tn() from inject_globals(),
so the first paint is already correct. That context processor covers every
render_template() in the app, including the six standalone iframe pages, so
routes/views.py needed no changes.
- JS text comes from /i18n/<lang>.<hash8>.js, a blocking immutable script shared
by all 8 entry points. The hash is in the path, not a query string, so
intermediary caches and the service worker bust reliably.
- Language = per-browser mc_lang cookie over a server-wide DB default. The
cookie is what makes iframes work: they are same-origin, so they send it
automatically and the existing modal-open reload wiring needs no changes.
t() deliberately does not escape — Jinja autoescape handles that, and escaping
here would double-escape every French apostrophe. t_html()/tHtml() escape their
params but trust catalog markup.
Also fixed along the way:
- save_ui_settings() replaced the whole settings blob instead of merging, so a
language-only POST would have wiped the toast settings. It worked before only
because the one form always submitted every key.
- `const t = document.getElementById(...)` in populateUiSettingsForm shadowed
the global translation helper; same for `var t` in six theme IIFEs.
scripts/i18n_check.py now fails the build if that pattern comes back.
- Removed app/templates/contacts.html, dead since the contacts pages were split
(no render_template reference anywhere), and two stale CSS comments.
Verified locally: catalog route headers/security, drop-in without restart,
malformed catalogs logged and skipped rather than offered in the picker,
cookie propagation into iframes, and 360px layout. Python and JS agree on
interpolation, escaping and Polish plural categories.

The chat view only ever grew by socket push, so anything that arrived
while the connection was down was never drawn. Android tears the
connection down behind a locked screen, and the wrapper keeps the same
page alive for days, so the list stopped at the last message that got
through until the app was force-stopped. A browser tab hid the same bug
by reloading the page on resume.
Every way back from a gap now re-reads the list from the server: the
socket reconnecting, the page becoming visible after more than a glance
away, a heartbeat noticing its own tick arrived far too late (the page
was frozen), a new Refresh item in the menu, and window.__mcAppResumed,
which the wrapper calls from onResume since a WebView is not guaranteed
to report the page as hidden at all. Direct messages get the same
treatment.
Verified in Chrome against the local container: all five triggers fire a
resync, with no page errors and the list intact afterwards.

The app already knew exactly which build was running - a calendar version
of commit date plus short hash - but nothing gave a release a name users
could quote, and the repo had no tags at all.
Adds a VERSION file as the single source of truth for a SemVer release
number, read by app/version.py alongside the existing build string rather
than replacing it: the number is for people, the build is for pinning down
a deploy, and both ship in /api/version and the template context. The menu
shows the release first with the build underneath. #versionText still holds
the build string, because the remote-update poller compares it to detect
that the server came back on a new build.
Resolution order is unchanged (frozen file > git > fallback), and a frozen
file written before this change still yields a correct release number, so
an already-deployed server does not need re-freezing to stay sane. The
container has no git, hence COPY VERSION into the image - otherwise a plain
'docker compose build' reports 0.0.0.
scripts/release.sh cuts a release from main: it refuses a dirty tree, a
wrong branch, a malformed number or an existing tag, extracts the notes
from the matching whatsnew section, then tags, pushes and publishes via gh.
Numbering starts at 2.1.0 rather than 1.x: the v2 line has been in
production since March and 'v1' is the archived pre-migration branch, so
1.x would have been ambiguous. Sections in whatsnew before 2.1.0 keep
their date-only headings - they were never tagged.

Full-screen iframe panel wired per the add-fullscreen-panel checklist:
- /path-analyzer Flask view + standalone template (theme bootstrap before
CSS, local vendor assets, Leaflet included for the stage-5 map view)
- path-analyzer.js: days selector (1/3/5/7), message table (time, channel,
sender, preview, copyable packet hash, hops, echo count), spinner/empty
states, local toast helpers fed from /api/ui/settings
- #pathAnalyzerModal in index.html, iframe src set on show.bs.modal for
fresh data each open; FAB button + purple gradient class
- menu entry in #mainMenu (Tools) + placement radio row in Settings ->
Appearance; registered in ITEM_PLACEMENT_DEFS/DEFAULTS (default: menu)
- style.css: #pathAnalyzerModal added to all three narrow-viewport
fullscreen-override selector lists
Verified live via Playwright at 1280px and 390px, light + dark: modal
fills the viewport exactly, placement radios move the entry both ways,
iframe reloads on every open.

New Observer tab: master switch, IATA location code, flood advert
interval, live status line with packet counters, broker list with
connection badges (green/red + error tooltip), enable switches and a
stacked add/edit modal (blank password on edit keeps the stored one).
Live badge/counter updates via the observer_status socket event.

Letsmesh Analyzer is now a regular analyzers row, seeded once via an
app_settings flag on first startup. It can be renamed, disabled, or
deleted like any user entry. The frontend drops the special built-in
pseudo-row and the built-in slot in the chooser.
Click resolution updated: 0 enabled → toast "No analyzer configured";
1 enabled → open directly; multiple with a default → open default;
multiple without default → chooser.
The row switch and the edit modal now show "Enabled" (checked = active),
which matches intuition. The DB column remains is_disabled so no data
migration is needed — the UI simply inverts the value on read/write.

SQLite DELETE marks pages free but doesn't shrink the file, so the
new retention job would keep DBs at their bloated size forever without
a follow-up VACUUM. Add db.vacuum() that runs PRAGMA-free VACUUM and
reports size_before/size_after/elapsed so callers can surface results.
The retention job now calls vacuum() automatically when it deleted at
least 1000 rows. Threshold avoids the multi-second VACUUM cost on quiet
days. Failure is logged, not raised — a missed VACUUM never crashes
the scheduler.
Power-user override: new "Optimize now" button in the Database Backup
modal triggers VACUUM on demand via POST /api/db/vacuum, alongside a
GET /api/db/size that drives the live "Current size" label. This way
users don't have to wait until 03:30 to reclaim space after the first
big retention pass.

Add a Settings > Analyzer tab letting users CRUD custom MeshCore Analyzer
services with a star-toggle default and inline disabled switch. The chart
icon under each group-chat message now resolves at click time: built-in
Letsmesh when no enabled customs, the default when set, or a chooser
modal otherwise. Backend stops shipping the prebuilt analyzer_url and
emits packet_hash instead — the frontend substitutes {packetHash} in the
chosen URL template.

The threshold above which the channel/DM list shows as a sidebar (vs.
collapsing to a top dropdown) is now user-configurable in
Settings -> Interface -> Layout. Persisted per device in LocalStorage
(key: mc-webui-sidebar-breakpoint, default: 992px, range: 600-2000).
Implementation: replaced hardcoded `@media (min-width: 992px)` with a
`.layout-wide` class on <html>, toggled by JS based on window.innerWidth
vs. the user's breakpoint. An inline script in <head> applies the class
synchronously to prevent layout flash on page load (same pattern as theme).

Lets users choose where each action appears: in the floating Quick
Access (FAB) bar or the slide-out Main Menu. Adds a "Hide Quick Access"
master switch and a per-item placement table in Settings -> Appearance.
Removes the stale "Refresh Messages" menu item (legacy of polling era,
WebSocket already covers it) and moves the Notifications toggle from
the menu to a dedicated Settings -> Notifications tab.
Each of the 11 configurable items is rendered in both locations;
applyItemPlacements() toggles d-none based on localStorage. Badges for
DM unread and pending contacts propagate to the Main Menu copies so
they stay in sync regardless of placement.

Replace the click-the-selected-radio-again gesture with a top-row
"None — use firmware default" radio, mirroring the per-channel region
picker. Users found the toggle gesture unintuitive; an explicit option
matches the picker pattern they already know.

Click the already-selected radio to clear the default; new
DELETE /api/regions/default endpoint also pushes an empty CMD 63 to
the firmware so its persistent default is wiped too.

Two small follow-ups after initial deployment.
- Rename the Settings tab 'Channels' -> 'Regions' (id now tabSettingsRegions).
The tab manages the region registry, not channels; the old label was
confusing. The per-channel picker still lives under Manage Channels as
before.
- Graceful handling of firmware rejection: CMD_SET_DEFAULT_FLOOD_SCOPE
(63) and CMD_GET_DEFAULT_FLOOD_SCOPE (64) were introduced in firmware
v1.15.0; on v1.14.x the device replies with a generic ERR frame and
our toast showed the unhelpful 'Firmware error: unknown'. Now the
device_manager translates the empty/timeout reason into a concrete
message naming the v1.15 requirement, and the api handler appends
'Your choice is saved locally' so the user knows the local state
still persists. Same treatment for the delete-default-region clear
path.
Fourth slice — the feature is now functional end-to-end from UI to radio.
- Manage Channels modal: each row now has a pin-map button between Mute
and Share that opens a region picker for that channel; rows show an
inline badge with the assigned region name.
- Region picker modal (new #regionPickerModal): radio list of regions
with a "(None) — use firmware default" option at the top. Empty-state
shows a "Manage Regions" CTA that deep-links to Settings > Channels.
- api.py: two new routes —
- GET /api/channels/scopes → bulk map for UI rendering
- PUT /api/channels/<idx>/scope → {region_id: int | null} set/clear
- device_manager.send_channel_message: looks up the channel's scope,
then — under _send_lock — pushes the 16-byte key via CMD 54 before
the actual send_chan_msg. Channels without a mapping get an all-zero
key so a previously-set scope doesn't leak across channels (firmware's
send_scope is sticky until overwritten, not one-shot).
Third slice — users can now curate their device-wide region list. No
per-channel mapping yet; that's PR #4.
- base.html: new Channels tab in the Settings modal with an info banner
pointing at regions.meshcore.nz, the list container, and an add-region
form.
- app.js: loadRegions / addRegion / deleteRegion / setDefaultRegion
mirroring the loadContactsSettings / saveContactsSetting pattern. Client
-side name validation (isValidRegionName) mirrors the firmware
RegionMap::is_name_char byte-rule exactly so users get instant feedback
on invalid chars without a round-trip.
- api.py: four routes under /api/regions —
- GET /api/regions → list registry
- POST /api/regions {name} → derive key + insert; 409 dup
- DELETE /api/regions/<id> → cascade channel mappings; if
the deleted region was firmware default, best-effort clear on device
- POST /api/regions/<id>/default → flip DB flag + push CMD 63;
if firmware push fails, DB still flips and response includes a
non-blocking `warning` for a toast
Reduce wrapper min-width 100px → 80px and tighten the form-select
chevron padding (2rem → 1.5rem right, 0.6rem → 0.5rem left) so the
navbar fits in one row on ~360px-wide phones while keeping the
chevron and text both visible.

Reduce wrapper min-width from 140px to 100px (with 140px max-width) so
the bell + channel selector + menu button all fit in one navbar row on
~412px-wide phones, without sacrificing readable channel names when
there's room to grow.

Replace the native <select> channel picker (used on narrow screens) with
a custom searchable dropdown matching the DM contact picker UX: type to
filter, arrow/Enter keyboard nav, click-outside to close, per-channel
unread badges, muted styling. Wide-screen sidebar (lg+) is unchanged.
Also align the DM picker dropdown font with the wide-screen DM sidebar
(0.88rem / weight 400) — was inheriting larger/bolder from form-control.

Adds a Path hash mode dropdown (1B/2B/3B) to Settings → Device → Public
Info, so the mode can be switched from the UI instead of the meshcli
console. The Settings modal now has a persistent Close button in the
footer, visible on every tab.

Move Manual approval toggle into a new Contacts tab in the global
Settings modal and clean up the Contact Management panel (drop the
duplicated Settings/Manage Contacts headers, shorten the Existing
Contacts blurb). Add two new persisted options gated on Manual
approval being ON: Suppress new advert notifications (frontend hides
FAB badge + browser notification while the Pending list itself stays
populated) and Automatically add new contacts to "Ignored" (advert
handler marks the new contact ignored before emitting pending_contact,
so the user is silenced end-to-end while contacts remain in the cache
for promotion via "To Device").

Users complained that the route popup under group-chat messages and the
top-of-page notification toasts auto-close before they can read them, and
some users wanted to move the toasts out of the top-left corner.
Adds to Settings modal:
- Group Chat tab: route popup auto-close timeout + "don't close" switch
(applies to both channel popups and DM route popups)
- New Interface tab: toast auto-close timeout, "don't close" switch, and
five position options (top-left/top-right/bottom-left/bottom-right/center)
Persisted as chat_settings (extended) and a new ui_settings row in the
app_settings table, with /api/chat/settings and /api/ui/settings endpoints.
Default toast delay bumped from 1.5s to 2s.

Add a Device tab as the first tab in the Settings modal with two sub-tabs:
- Public Info: device name, coordinates with map picker, advert location sharing
- Radio Settings: frequency, bandwidth, SF, CR, TX power with region presets
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.6 <noreply@anthropic.com>
- Add Settings quick-access button to both main chat and DM views
- Make FAB container draggable via toggle button with position saved to localStorage
- Add button size and spacing sliders in Settings > Appearance tab
- Use CSS custom properties for dynamic FAB sizing

Integrate meshcore library's BLE connection (via bleak) as a third
transport option alongside serial and TCP. Priority: BLE > TCP > Serial.
Config: MC_BLE_ADDRESS and MC_BLE_PIN environment variables.
Docker: bluez/dbus packages, NET_ADMIN cap, D-Bus socket mount.
UI: transport type badge in navbar, transport_type in /api/status.
Watchdog: skip USB reset for BLE connections (same as TCP).

Replace 3-way branching (configured_paths/has_path/else) with
4-scenario matrix based on (has_path × has_configured_paths):
- S1: No path, no configured paths → FLOOD only
- S2: Has path, no configured paths → DIRECT + optional FLOOD
- S3: No path, has configured paths → FLOOD first, then ŚD rotation
- S4: Has path, has configured paths → DIRECT on ŚK, ŚD rotation, optional FLOOD
Key changes:
- S3: FLOOD before configured paths (discover new routes)
- S4: exhaust retries on current ŚK before rotating ŚD
- S4: dedup ŚG/ŚK to skip redundant retries on same path
- Add _paths_match() helper for path deduplication
- Update tooltip text for settings clarity
Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 4.6 <noreply@anthropic.com>
- Create theme.css with CSS custom properties for light/dark themes
- Dark theme inspired by demo landing page (deep navy palette)
- Update style.css: replace ~145 hardcoded colors with CSS variables
- Extract inline styles from index.html, contacts.html, dm.html to style.css
- Add Appearance tab in Settings modal with theme selector
- Bootstrap 5.3 data-bs-theme integration for native dark mode
- Theme persisted in localStorage, applied before CSS loads (no FOUC)
- Console and System Log panels unchanged (already dark themed)

Adds a Share tab to the Device Info modal that generates a QR code
and copyable URI (meshcore://contact/add?...) for sharing the device
contact with other users.

Add Group Chat tab in Settings with configurable quote byte limit.
When quoting a message longer than the limit, a dialog asks whether
to use full or truncated quote (with editable byte count).

The MeshCore community uses "companion" not "client" for type 1 nodes.
Rename the CLI label to COM across all UI, API, JS, and docs to align
with official terminology. Includes cache migration for old CLI entries.

Replace vertical form fields with table rows for less screen space.
Descriptions moved to (i) tooltip icons on hover/touch.

Replace hardcoded DM retry logic with user-configurable settings stored
in app_settings DB. Settings modal opens from menu with tab-based UI
(ready for future settings tabs). Defaults: 3 direct + 1 flood retries
(was 8+2), 30s/60s intervals, 60s grace period.

Reorganize menu from 2 sections (Network Commands, Configuration) into 4:
- Messages (top, no header) - daily actions
- Network - advert commands
- Tools - Map, Console
- System - Device Info, System Log, Backup, Settings placeholder
Increase navbar button/select touch targets (min 40px) for mobile usability.
Widen offcanvas menu from 280px to 300px.

Changed from target="_blank" link to fullscreen modal with iframe,
matching the pattern used by Console, DM, and Contacts modals.
Iframe loads on open and clears on close to manage WebSocket lifecycle.
