It would be awesome if GitHub @ mentions were auto-linked to GitHub profiles in blog posts. I'm hoping there's an existing plugin but there likely isn't.

@jdiogopeixoto - This is an interesting idea. What do you think about the feasibility of this? AFAIK it would:
be limited to blog post body text only
at static site build, search body text for @foo and render as @foo
Note this does risk ALL text of format @foo getting rendered as a GitHub link. Not a frequent case, but still a risk. If executing this would be complex, keeping the risk in mind, it might not be worth implementing.

If you mean to edit the markdown itself directly as part of an automated process, sure. I believe @Stebalien's original request was so that he doesn't need to type all of that.

I really don't think it's worth doing this, I feel like it's too much work when it can be solved by just adding it as a link.
Doing this could also lead to problems as you mentioned, we would have to assume that all the handles are GitHub handles, which I don't think it's a good assumption.

My biggest concern about this is the assumption that anything with an @ is a GitHub handle. Agree - let's close this but revisit if it becomes a pain point.

[@foo](https://github.com/foo)? 🤔If you mean to edit the markdown itself directly as part of an automated process, sure. I believe @Stebalien's original request was so that he doesn't need to type all of that.
