Hi, a pure text command line interface of Contact looks really nice. But one need a Python PC to run it.

What about porting Contact as C++ library, so it will be possible to create a standalone device on microcontrollers like RP2040 or stm32, connected to VGA LCD display and keyboards like CardKB?

That's an interesting idea and would be very cool! I think the major hurdle there is that Contact relies on the Meshtastic Python Library. Porting that library and it's dependencies would be a very heavy lift.

Honestly someone with greater knowledge of C++ could possibly write a great client for microcontrollers but it is not within the scope of this project.

Yep, Meshtastic Python library could be quite heavy lift. I think that I'm not the only one who wants C++ version too :)

Is there an official UART API for Meshtastic, or does the Meshtastic Python library handle communication with all supported boards directly?

There is the official Meshtastic-Arduino Library and MeshtasticUI is also arduino code running on a microcontroller interfacing with the meshtastic core over UART.

I've had a bit of fun with the Meshtastic-Arduino library!

Ah, totally forgot about that Arduino library - thanks for the reminder!

MeshtasticUI looks a bit overkill for what I need, but that project
is great inspiration. Definitely gives me some ideas!
