While testing to see if a muted channel would be ignored by the bot/auto-responder, I noticed that setting a channel's "is_muted" setting to True (and then saving), doesn't stay True if you go back into the channel's settings. I saved, restarted the app, testing incoming messages, etc. Muting a channel does not seem to work.
