📝 Problem Description

Push notifications don't work on iOS.

🚦 Current Behavior

If you click test after allowing them you will just get an error and no notification.

🎯 Expected Behavior

You should receive a notification.

📋 Steps to Reproduce

  1. Add the app to your home screen so it runs as a PWA (I believe this is needed on iOS).
  2. Enable notifications in settings.0
  3. Click test and get an error and no notification.

📡 Radio Node

  • Firmware version: 1.16.0
  • Hardware / board type: Heltec V4

🔌 Connection to the Radio

  • Connected directly to the radio, or through an intermediary?
    Direct Connection
  • Transport: TCP

💻 Environment Information

  • OS: Debian 13
  • Browser / Version: Safari on iOS 27 (same issue on iOS 26)
  • RemoteTerm Version: v3.16.2

Additional context
I believe you need an email address attached to the request (VAPID contact email). Meshmonitor implements this and it works so perhaps this information might help? https://github.com/yeraze/meshmonitor/blob/main/docs/faq.md#im-not-receiving-notifications-on-my-iphone

You likely need to set your VAPID subject: MESHCORE_VAPID_SUBJECT (https://github.com/jkingsman/Remote-Terminal-for-MeshCore/blob/main/README.md#standard-environment-variables), made available in changes at #289.

Thank you! Sorry about this. I assumed I would have found this in the UI and didn’t think to check the environment variables.

I can confirm it is all working correctly now.
