As some of us know imgur recently added gifv conversion support which converts huge GIF files (like 50MB+) to small GIFV files (like 10MB or less).
TBH this should really be added for gif's that exceed a certain file size (say 10MB?) so that bandwidth usage can be decreased considerably.

A perfect example would be this file. http://imgur.com/D8gSMoh
It was originally 62MB it was converted to a gifv and now its only 2.7MB which is a DRASTIC reduction of file size and saves a TON of bandwidth.

@plegall https://gist.github.com/ndarville/10010916 This example shows ffmpeg being used to convert gif to webm. So i'm sure it wont be hard to convert gif files over 5-10MB to webm.

If we do this as an optional feature in the admin panel then when someone goes to enable the feature then piwigo needs to check if this extension is installed and if it isn't then it should throw an error and tell the user to install it.
@plegall
Just a side not that if we do this non-optionally http://piwigo.org/ext/extension_view.php?eid=610 will need to be merged with piwigo.

Considering the lack of other requests concerning this format and also considering the evolution in the recent times (such as WebP which can perfectly replace GIF files), I prefer to close this issue.
