In the administration panel, the "synchronise metadata" function take the metadata from the EXIF and repace the data stored in the database.
Concerning the date, it is particulary bad for those like me which may have wrong EXIF dateTime and entered the true date in date_creation field with an old version of PWG.
So IMHO, this date_creation should not be erased, but stored from the EXIF DateTimeOriginal only if the field is empty.

I won't add this feature for 1.6.0, maybe for 1.6.1 or for 1.7.

If I will do only once point in next release it would be that one.

Modules to be changed:
admin/include/functions_metadata.php (
$exif = get_sync_exif_data($file);
and never $exif will be used,
creation_date will be erased even by blanks,
and in all case with no care of distant or local site.
Only local pictures will be overridden if exif values are available for the current picture).
admin/site_update.php (
$data = $site_reader->get_element_metadata(
$file,
in_array($id, $has_high_images)
);
and in that case local or distant site is taken as a different approach,
and in any case a none exif file will return a blank date which will erase a valid current date. Because we are in mass_updates process, Exif fields in $data have to be overridden by the current picture values if Exif aren't available for this picture).

rvelices resolved it in Synchro (Thxs to him)
Edit-picture has a metadata synchronization icon.
The process behind is also bugged.
More than this metadata synchronization is tried even against a distant site.
A bug still exists.

I unassign myself ...
what this guy is asking is different than http://bugs.phpwebgallery.net/view.php?id=132 which I solved...
I think we should close this bug without correcting the requested feature...

Bug is solved, but use_iptc and use_exif erase the related column contents in images table.
If we close this bug, we have to ensure another one is open.

8 years with this "bug" still opened. I prefer to close it now and if it still exists in recent versions of Piwigo, we will have a new and accurate issue report.
