[BUG] Site becomes unavailable when piwigo.org is unreachable #2231

Hello.
Sorry for my bad English.

Piwigo 16.4.0 - new install

Environment:

  • Ubuntu Server 26.04
  • nginx + php8.3-fpm
  • mysql server 8.0 (docker, other server, direct link)

Problem:
After install I go to admin page, go to settings or any page. Later piwigo and other sites response - 504 gateway.
After restart php8.3-fpm for a while all sites open normaly.

I added into config file php8.3-fpm - www.conf degub strings and this from log file:

When I changed to /etc/php/8.3/fpm/php.ini

allow_url_fopen = Off

and restart php8.3-fm - all sites work correctly, without 504. But I can't install plugins and check new version.

However, in WEBUI admin settings I don't find how to disable:

  • check update
  • disable connect to piwigo sites.
  • use proxy server

Expected behavior:

If Piwigo cannot reach piwigo.org or extension servers, the request should fail quickly and display an error message.

The gallery itself should continue working normally.

Actual behavior:

Several PHP-FPM workers remain blocked inside fetchRemote(), which eventually causes 504 Gateway Timeout errors for Piwigo and other websites using the same PHP-FPM pool.
