Considering issue #1144 and this comment: (https://github.com/Piwigo/Piwigo/issues/1144#issuecomment-1748876265) AVIF support is to be considered:

  • this format seems to be well implemented by browsers;
  • it provides 12 bits per channel;
  • it supports HDR;
  • it seems to provide a very good compression.
