The best way of dealing with keywords is using a hierarchical structure.

Photo processing tools like Lightroom already support import/export of hierarchical tags from/to text files with tab delimited structure.

In addition, they store this hierarchy in the metadata of this picture as they do with rating. This means that already processed pictures and selected in the processing phase can be automatically displayed in Piwigo with the right tags and rating. This is not convenient, but it also automates synchronization between our processing tools and their use on the website. In this case means that if I reprocess a photo, change the keyword or rating on the piwigo site it can be updated automatically through that picture metadata in Lightroom or any other tool. The reverse is also true.
