Thank you for Piwigo, it is an immensely useful program!

When I upgraded to version 11, I disabled the video.js plugin because it was listed as incompatible. Things looked great with the native player. However, the next time I ran a local synchronization... all my movies disappeared from the library! (The underlying files were still there.) I realized that video.js is mandatory for indexing videos, so I reinstalled it, run the synchronization again, and got my video albums back. Except now all their album thumbnails are gone. :-/

It would be worth avoiding the dependency on an incompatible addon. Here are some ideas to prevent the various effects of this dependency.

  • Upgrade the video.js plugin and mark it as compatible so that people will be less tempted to remove it.
  • Warn users who want to remove video.js that it is critical and that its removal will cause all videos to disappear from the library.
  • Warn people who want to synchronize the library, and who have videos in that library, and who are lacking video.js, that they are about to lose all their videos from the library.
  • Store the album thumbnails even if the underlying album is gone from the library. It seems like other info, like the album name, was preserved when I recovered my video albums.
  • Better yet, bring video indexing / thumbnailing into the Piwigo core. Video.js is just a web video player, so why would it be necessary for core functionality?

Sorry to request one billion changes. It costs me nothing. :-) But perhaps items 1-3 are relatively easy.

I was not upgrading to 11 just because of that listed as incompatible.

I was not upgrading to 11 just because of that `listed as incompatible`. <!-- github-comment-id:812023148 -->
